The black and white series of Clothespins edits proves a variety of initial previsions and illustrates alternate emphases. Minimally composed, the image is both avant-garde and intimate, a global experience while still a scene of personal domestic dynamism. Clothespins have often been a motif for the artist at this period as can be seen in color in Hanging Laundry as well as in another domestic black and white photograph called Shadow of Cat, Chair, with Clothespin.
