The Hvar Abstract is one of the last and most refined of the artist's early abstract geometric grayscale photography style. The edits to it, finalized some years after the raw material was collected, prove Ross's vision within the genre. The image is also perhaps the sole survivor from a theft of nearly half a decade of the artist's collected negatives, decimating the artist's material history. The making of the work itself got the artist deported from the Croatian island of Hvar to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was living black.
